Medication description: Midazolam (Midazolam)

MIDAZOLAM 8-Chloro-6- (2-fluorophenyl) -1-methyl-4H-imidazo [1, 5a] [1,4] benzodiazepine.

Synonyms: Flormidal, Dormicum, Dormonid, Flormidal, Versed.

Produced in the form of maleate and hydrochloride. By structure and action is close to benzodiazepine tranquilizers (see). Has a calming, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant effect, enhances the effect of sleeping pills, narcotic, analgesic drugs.

A characteristic feature of midazolam is a pronounced hypnotic (hypnotic) effect, in connection with which the drug is used mainly in anesthetic practice for premedication, introduction to anesthesia and maintenance of anesthesia.

Midazolam is administered intravenously and intramuscularly. The drug is short-lived. For premedication, midazolam is administered for 20 -30 min before anesthesia by intramuscular injection at 0,05 - 0,1 mg / kg. Can be used alone or in combination with anticholinergics and analgesics.

For the introduction of anesthesia, intravenously administered for 15 minutes at a rate of 0.15-0.25 mg / kg along with analgesics. To maintain anesthesia, additional doses are administered. You can combine midazolam and ketamine.

With intravenous administration of midazolam, respiratory depression may develop, and therefore its use is allowed only if it is possible to carry out ventilation.

Do not use midazolam with severe myasthenia gravis, circulatory failure, in the first 3 months. Pregnancy.

Product: 0.5% solution in ampoules of 3 ml (15 mg in the ampoule).

Also produced are midazolam tablets of 15 mg, used as a tranquilizer and hypnotics and for premedication.
