Description of drug: Levomycetin stearate (Laevomycetini stearas)

LEVOMYCETINA STEARAT (Laevomycetini stearas).

D- (-) - threo-1-p-Nitrophenyl-2-dichloroacetylamino-propanediol-1, 33-stearate.

Synonym: Euleumycetin.

White with a yellowish tint powder. Almost nerastvorim in water, it is difficult soluble in alcohol. Contains 55% of levomycetin in the bound form. The drug has no inherent bitterness of levomycetin.

In the gastrointestinal tract, levomycetin stearate is saponified with the formation of levomycetin, which is the active substance. The concentration of levomycetin in the blood with the intake of levomycetin stearate increases more slowly than with the intake of levomycetin, and with equal doses remains at a lower level. The drug is not completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore the intestinal remains a long time bacteriostatic concentration.

Apply for the same indications as levomycetin (dysentery, typhoid fever, whooping cough, tonsillitis, otitis, pneumonia, rickettsiosis and other infectious diseases), mainly in children's practice, when the use of levomycetin is difficult because of the bitter taste.

Assign inside. Doses for children and adults are determined from the calculation of the content in the drug of levomycetin (0.55 g of levomycetin in 1 g of levomycetin stearate), i.e. Doses of levomycetin stearate are increased approximately 2-fold compared with doses of levomycetin. Children aged up to 2 - 3 years are recommended to take the drug with a porridge or a milk formula; Children can be prescribed a drug in the form of a 5% suspension

Levomycetin stearate is prescribed 3 to 4 times a day: adults usually take 1 g per reception, children under 3 years - 0.02 g / kg, from 3 to 8 years - 0.3-0.4 g per reception, from 8 years and older - 0.4 to 0.6 g per reception.

Duration of treatment is 10 days, and for diseases accompanied by relapses, up to 2 - 3 weeks.

Side effects are the same as with treatment with levomycetin, except for those that depend on the bitter taste of the drug.

Contraindications are the same as for levomycetin.
