Synonyms: Balusil, Chlorguanid, Chloriguane, Diguanil, Guanatol, Paludrine, Palusil, Plasin Proguanide, Proguanil hydrochloride, Proguanilum, Tirian.

White crystalline powder odorless, bitter to the taste. It is slightly soluble in water (1: 100 at +20 C), it is difficult - in alcohol. The aqueous solutions are sterilized at +100 ° C for 30 minutes.

According to the type of action on malarial plasmodium, bigumal is close to chloride, the duration of action is less compared with chloride. The effect is slower than with the use of hingamin (chloroquine) and acrichine. Due to the relatively slow onset of the effect, rapid release from the body and the rapid development of drug resistance of malarial plasmodium, the hair dry is used in a limited way. In the treatment of tropical malaria, it is prescribed only at moderate severity.

Is taken orally after a meal. Wash with water (1/4 - 1/2 cup). On the course (4 - 5 days), adults are prescribed 1, 5 g according to the following scheme:

Day Daily Number of doses administered, g per day
1st 0.6 2 reception with an interval of 6 h 2 - 4 th 0.3 1 reception

Note. In day 1, the daily dose can be 0.3 g; In this case, the course of treatment lasts 5 days.

In severe disease, treatment can last up to 7 days; The daily dose from the 2nd to the 7th day is 0.3 g (in 1 dose).

Higher doses of adult for adults: single 0.3 g, daily 0.6 g.

Older than 16 years ..... 0.3

The course of treatment is 5 days. The daily dose is prescribed in one session. Children over 16 years on the 1st day can be given 0.6 g; In this case the treatment lasts 4 days.

When unconscious and vomiting, a 1% solution of hair dry is injected into the vein. At the first injection, 10-15 ml is given, if necessary, repeat the injections with an interval of 4-6 hours.

Single dose should not exceed 0.15 g (15 ml of 1% solution), daily - 0.45 g.

For injections, 1% solution of bigum is prepared on 0,5 - 0,6% isotonic solution of sodium chloride. The solution is filtered and sterilized at + 100 ° C for 30-40 minutes.

Enter into a vein in the heated form; When cooling, crystals of bigum can drop out.

After restoration of consciousness, appoint bigumal inside at a daily dose of 0.3 g; Course of treatment of a malarial coma of 7 days.

For the chemoprophylaxis of malaria, a hair dry solution of 0.2 g (2 tablets) is prescribed 2 times a week (for example, on the 1st and 4th days of the week).

Bigumal is usually well tolerated. Sometimes the number of leukocytes in the peripheral blood increases briefly and young forms of neutrophils appear, and in the urine small amounts of red blood cells are found.

Long-term use of hair dry can cause oppression of gastric secretion and loss of appetite, which often occurs when taking the drug on an empty stomach.

Disadvantages of hair dry are slow action, rapid elimination from the body and rapid development of resistance to malarial plasmodium.
