ETHYLMORPHINE HYDROCHLORIDE (Aethylmorphini hydrochloridum).

White crystalline powder odorless, bitter taste. Soluble in water (1:12) and alcohol (1:25).

By general action on the body is close to codeine.

Used internally for calming cough with chronic bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, etc., and also as an analgesic. Doses for adults 0.01 - 0.03 g per reception.

Children over 2 years of age are prescribed 0.001 to 0.0075 g per reception, depending on the age.

Ethylmorphine hydrochloride is also used sometimes in ophthalmic practice. When injected into the conjunctival sac, drug solutions cause hyperemia followed by anesthesia and temporary edema of the conjunctiva; The drug acts soothingly on the eyes with keratitis, corneal infiltrates, inflammation of the iris and other eye diseases.

Apply in ophthalmic practice in the form of drops and ointments. Begin with the appointment of 1 - 2% solution or ointment, then the concentration of solutions gradually increase to 6 - 8 - 10%.

When prescribing solutions at concentrations above 8%, an exclamation point should be placed indicating the correctness of the assigned concentration.
