Description of the medicine: Mefloquine

Mefloquine.

DL-erythro-α, 2-piperidyl-2,8-bis (trifluoromethyl) -4-quinoline-methanol.

Synonym: Lariam, Lariam.

Powder bitter and slightly burning taste.

Has high hematoschizontocidal activity against P.falciparum and P.vivax. Effective also with respect to the circulating schizonts P.ovale and P.malariae.

Well absorbed in the digestive tract, C max is 7-24 h; Undergoes biotransformation in the liver, is withdrawn slowly (T S - 13-33 days), mainly with feces.

Applied for the prevention and treatment of malaria caused by P.falciparum, including resistance to chloroquine, chloridine and other antimalarial drugs, as well as for the prevention of malaria caused by P.ovale, P.vivax and P.malariae.

Assign inside (after eating) for prevention of adults to 0.25 g once a week for a week before entering the hearth, during the entire stay in the outbreak and 4 weeks after leaving it.

For therapeutic purposes, adults are prescribed 0.015 g (15 mg) (in terms of the base) per 1 kg of body weight - once (only 1.25 g).

Possible side effects: dyspepsia, ataxia, hearing and vision impairment, bradycardia, myalgia, impaired liver function, thrombocytopenia, etc.

Contraindicated in severe violations of liver and kidney function, neuropsychiatric diseases in history (epilepsy, depression, etc.), pregnancy and lactation.

Form release: tablets of 0.25 g (base) (N. 4, 8).
