Phenolphthalein (Phenolphthaleinum). a, a -di- (4-hydroxyphenyl) -ftalid.

Synonyms: Arkalax, Becalax, Darolax, Laxane , Laxin, Laxogen, Laxol, Merilax, Phenaloin, Pugratol, Purex, Purgophen, Purgyl, Trilax and others.

White or slightly yellowish crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless, very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol (1:12).

By the nature of laxative effect is similar to antraglikozidy (see rhubarb root.); It has primarily effects on the colon.

Applied with chronic constipation.

Adult dose of 0.1 - 0.2 g per reception (up to 0.3 g per day); for children 3 - 4 years - 0.05 g, 5 - 6 years - 0.1 g, 7 - 9 years - 0.15 g, 10 - 14 years - 0.15 - 0.2 g, children under 3 years is not appointed.

Currently, phenolphthalein is used as a laxative relatively rare; the drug is cumulative and can be irritating to the kidneys.

phenolphthalein tablets (Tabulettae Rhenolphthaleini). Synonyms: blizzard Rurgenum. Contain 0.1 grams (for adults) and 0.05 g (for children), phenolphthalein. Assign adults and children of 1 tablet (respectively 0.1 or 0.05 g) of 1 - 3 times a day.
