Description of the medicine: Alprazolam (Alprazolam)

ALPRAZOLAM. 8-Chloro-1-methyl-6-phenyl-4H- [1,2,4] triazolo [4, 3a] [1,4] benzodiazepine.

Synonyms: Alprax, Xanax, Neurrol, Alprax, Cassadan, Frontal, Neurol, Prinax, Restil, Solanax, Tafil, Trankimazin, Tricca, Xanax, Xanor, Zotran.

The chemical structure is close to triazolam (see), differs from the absence of the Cl atom at phenyl at position 6. Alprazolam has less pronounced hypnotic effect. It is used mainly for short-term withdrawal of feelings of anxiety, fear, anxiety, treatment of concomitant depression.

The drug is rapidly absorbed. The peak concentration in the blood plasma observed after 1 - 2 hours after ingestion. The half-life of 12-15 hours. Frequent repeated use can, however, lead to cumulation, especially if the kidneys and liver are impaired in the elderly.

Assign inside adults at a dose of 0.25-0.5 mg (0.00025 - 0.0005 g) 3 times a day. The highest daily dose is 3 mg. Weak and elderly patients are prescribed 0.25 mg 2 to 3 times a day; If necessary and with good tolerability of the drug, the dose is gradually increased.
