Description of the medicine: Alprostadil (Alprostadil)

ALPROSTADIL (Alprostadil).

A drug from the prostaglandin group (prostaglandin E).

Synonyms: Vasaprostan, Prostavasin, Minprog, Prostandin, Prostavasin, Prostin VR, Vasaprostan.

It causes a reduction in the musculature of the uterus, intestines and other smooth muscle organs, but at the same time it exerts a pronounced peripheral vasodilating action, increases blood flow in the peripheral vessels, improves microcirculation, inhibits platelet aggregation, and exerts a disaggregating effect.

It is used mainly for chronic obliterating diseases of arteries of the lower extremities (obliterating atherosclerosis, etc.).

The drug is more effective in the II and III stages of ischemia of the lower extremities.

Apply alprostadil intravenously and intraarterially.

For intravenous use, the contents of 2 ampoules (40 μg of drug) are diluted in 250 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution. Enter drip (for 2 hours) 1 time, and in severe cases 2 times a day. If necessary, the dose is increased to 60 μg (3 ampoules) and injected for 3 hours.

With intra-arterial administration, dilute 20 μg (1 ampoule) in 50 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution. Initially, 10 μg (1/2 ampoules, i.e. 25 ml) is administered for 60 to 120 minutes; With good tolerability in the future can be administered 40 mcg (during the same time). Injections are produced 1 to 2 times a day. Long-term infusion through a catheter is possible.

The course of treatment lasts 15 - 25 days.

When alprostadil is used, it is possible to lower blood pressure, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dull pain in the limb being treated, burning sensation, reddening at the site of insertion of the catheter.

The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

It should be taken into account that alprostadil enhances the effect of antihypertensive and antiplatelet agents.

Product: in ampoules containing 0.02 mg (20 μg) of alprostadil, 10 ampoules per package.
