Love affair at work
The workplace is not designed for people to fall in love with each other.
FROM THE SPECIAL REPORT BY THE BUREAU ON NATIONAL AFFAIRS
Like it or not, office space is a place where young people meet girls. There are statistics showing that the largest number of marriages is in pairs that occurred in the workplace.
But at work the destruction of marriages also occurs.
Perhaps the best known was the office romance between William Eygee, who was then Bendix Corporation’s business manager, and his assistant, Mary Cunningham. The case received wide publicity because many believed that it was the position of the “favorite” that allowed Mary to advance through the ranks. They both left the company, got married and together started their own business.
Most office novels do not become the subject of newspaper hype, but they get their share of attention at work. The Bureau of National Affairs considered this topic so topical that it became the subject of an extensive study, during which many psychologists, high-ranking leaders, middle-ranking leaders and their employees were interviewed. It was concluded that office romance certainly creates a tense atmosphere.
