Muscles surrounding the auditory aperture

These muscles are related to the muscles of the cranial vault, have a rudimentary structure and are practically not functioning.

1. Anterior ear muscle, m. Auricutaris anterior, begins from the temporal fascia and tendon helmet, is directed back and down, somewhat narrows and attaches to the skin of the ear above the tragus.

Function: shifts the auricle forward and upward.

Blood supply: aa. Temporalis superficialis.

2. Upper ear, m. Auricularis superior, is located next to the previous one. It starts over the auricle from the tendon helmet, it goes down and is attached to the upper part of the cartilage of the auricle.

The fiber bundle of the upper ear muscle, which is woven into the tendon helmet, is isolated into a separate muscle and is called the temporo-parietal muscle, m. Temporoparietalis.

Function: shifts the auricle to the top, pulls the tendon helmet.

Blood supply: aa. Temporalis superficialis, auricularis posterior.

3. Posterior ear, m. Auricularis posterior, is poorly developed. It starts from fascia nuchae and, moving forward, reaches the base of the auricle.

Function: pulls the auricle back.

Blood supply: a. Auricularis posterior.

Ear muscles are the lateral abdomen of the supracranial muscle.
