Muscles of the nostril circumference

1. Nasal muscle, m. Nasalis, begins from the upper jaw above the alveoli of the canine and lateral incisor, rises and divides into two parts - the outer and the inner.

The outer, or transverse, part, the pars transversa, bends the wing of the nose, somewhat widens and at the middle line passes into the tendon that connects here with the tendon of the same-named muscle of the opposite side.

The inner, or wing, part, pars alaris, attaches to the posterior end of the cartilage of the wing of the nose.

Function: narrows the nasal aperture.

Blood supply: aa. Labialis superior, angularis.

2. Muscle lowering the septum of the nose , m. Depressor septi nasi, starts from the alveolar elevation of the upper medial incisor, and also partially receives bundles of m. Orbicularis oris. It is attached to the lower surface of the cartilage of the septum of the nose.

Function: pulls the septum of the nose downwards.

Innervation: all facial muscles are innervated by n branches. Facialis. Blood supply: a. Labialis superior.
