Long fibular muscle

The long fibular muscle , m. Peroneus longus (m. Fibularis longus), located along the lateral surface of the tibia. In the upper half of the shin it lies directly on the fibula , and in the lower half it covers m. Peroneus brevis. The muscle begins with two heads: anterior - from the head of the fibula, lateral condyle of the tibia and the fascia of the tibia and posterior - from the upper parts of the lateral surface of the fibula. Going down, the muscle passes into a long tendon that wraps around the lateral ankle, passes under the retinaculum musculorum peroneorum (fibularium) superius and retinaculum musculorum peroneorum (fibularium) inferius and follows the external surface of the heel bone under the peroneal block, passing to the sole. Here it lies in the furrow of the tendons of the peroneal muscles and, crossing the foot obliquely, is attached to the tuberosity I and the base of the II metatarsal bones.
