Muscles, relaxing the vocal cords

1. Thoracic muscle , m. Thyroarytenoideus, is located horizontally in an anteroposterior direction, adjoining to an internal surface of a thyroid cartilage .

The outer part of the muscle starts from the inner surface of the thyroid cartilage along the sides of the midline and, guided posteriorly, is attached to the anterolateral surface of the arytenoid cartilage in the region of the arcuate scallop and triangular fossa.

2. The vocal muscle , m. Vocalis, is located inward from the cicatricial muscle, trihedral, thrusts into the laryngeal lumen, lies in the thickness of the voice ligament, plica vocalis.

The muscle starts from the inner surface of the thyroid cartilage near the corner, going posteriorly and attached to the vocal appendage and the oblong fossa of the arytenoid cartilage.

M. thyroarytenoideus, contracting, weakens the tension of the vocal cords and partially narrows the vocal chink.

In the thickness of the fold of the vestibule of the larynx, there is an underdeveloped muscle stretched from the inner surface of the thyroid cartilage to the crescent. Cutting, it changes the tension of the fold of the vestibule.
