Lumbosacral joint

The lumbosacral joint , articulatio lumbosacralis, is formed between the V lumbar vertebral base of the sacrum.

The joint is a modified intervertebral disc with an enlarged cavity, the dimensions of which are much larger than in the overlying discs. Above and below the cavity extends to the hyaline plates that cover the bodies of the vertebrae.

The intervertebral disc of this joint has a higher anterior margin, which together with the base of the sacrum and the inferior part of the body of the lumbar vertebra V forms a cape.

The lumbosacral joint is strengthened mainly by the iliac-lumbar ligament, lig. Iliolumbale, which extends from the posterior margin of the ileum and posterior third of the iliac crest and attaches to the anterolateral surface of the body of the V lumbar and I sacral vertebra. In addition, the joint is strengthened by the anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments, descending respectively along the anterior and posterior surfaces of the vertebral bodies.
