Pseudo-metacarpal joints

Carpometacarpal joints, articulationes carpometacarpeae, are formed by the distal surfaces of the bones of the second row of the wrist and the bases of the metacarpal bones. There are two carpometacarpal joints: formed by a bone-trapezium and I metacarpus (thumb) and located between the trapezoid bone, trapezoid, capitate and hooked bones, on the one hand, and II-V metacarpal bones on the other.

The wrist joint of the thumb of the hand, articulatio carpometacarpea pollicis, is formed by the distal saddle joint surface of the trapezoid bone and the saddle joint surface of the base of the first metacarpal bone. It is a kind of biaxial joints - saddle joint.

Unlike all joints of the wrist - complex joints previously discussed - the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb of the hand - a simple joint.

The metacarpal joints of II-V metacarpal bones are formed by flat articular surfaces of the distal side of the trapezoid bone, as well as the trapezoid, capitate and hook-shaped bones and the proximal articular surfaces of the bases of II-V metacarpal bones facing them. The metacarpal joint of the 5th metacarpal bone is close in shape to the saddle joint. The joint capsule is attached along the edge of the articular surfaces of bones and tightly stretched. The cavity of the carpometacarpal joint communicates with the cavity of the intermittent, mid-wrinkles and inter-articular joints. The ligamentous apparatus of the carpometacarpal joints includes the palmar and dorsal carpometacarpal ligaments, ligg. Carpometacarpea palmaria et dorsalia, which on the corresponding side are stretched between the bones of the wrist and pastern.

Wrist-metacarpal joints represent mechanically one whole - the solid foundation of the hand. Such joints are inactive and refer to flat joints.
