Arc joints

The arcuate joints , articulationes of the zygapophysiales, are formed between the superior articular process. Processus articularis superior, underlying vertebra and inferior articular process, processus articularis inferior, overlying vertebra. The joint capsule is strengthened along the edge of the articular cartilage. The articular cavity is located according to the position and direction of articular surfaces, approaching the cervical section to the horizontal plane, in the thoracic cavity - to the frontal and in the lumbar region - to the sagittal plane.

Dougotrochchatye joints are in the cervical and thoracic spine to the flat joints, in the lumbar - to the cylindrical.

They are functionally related to the group of inactive joints.
Symmetric arcuate joints are combined joints, i.e., those in which movement in one joint necessarily entails a displacement in the other, since both joints are the articular processes on the same bone.
