Large diamond-shaped muscle , m. Rhomboideus major, the muscle of the second layer, is located under the trapezius muscle between the scapula and has the appearance of a flat wide diamond-shaped plate. It starts from the spinous processes of the four upper thoracic vertebrae . Its tufts are laterally and somewhat downward and attach to the medial edge of the scapula.

Blood supply: aa. Transversa colli, suprascapularis, intercostales posteriores.
