Medication Description: Sodium Iodide (Natrii iodidum)
SODIUM IODID (Natrii iodidum).
Synonyms: Sodium iodide, Natrium iodatum.
White crystalline powder; odorless, salty in taste. On air, it becomes damp with decomposition and release of iodine. Easily soluble in water (1: 0,6), alcohol (1: 3), glycerin (1: 2). Aqueous solutions are sterilized at a temperature of + 100 ° C for 30 minutes or +120 ° C for 20 minutes.
Indications for use and doses are the same as for potassium iodide.
Inside appoint 0.3 - 1, 0 g 3 - 4 times a day.
If necessary, intravenous administration of iodine (with late syphilitic changes of the optic nerve, lung actinomycosis, etc.) use a 10% solution of sodium iodide, 5-10 ml per injection. Usually administered after 1 to 2 days; only 8 to 12 injections.
