Medication Description: Litonite (Litonitum)
Lithium salt of nicotinic acid.
White crystalline powder. Easily soluble in water.
Litonite is proposed as a non-specific adjuvant for complex treatment of patients with alcoholism. The action of the drug is aimed at improving metabolic processes and hemodynamics (due to the nicotinic acid component - see) and reducing affective disorders (due to lithium ion).
Litonite is used to reduce craving for alcohol, reduce abstinence phenomena, as well as in acute alcohol intoxication (in combination with other means and methods of treatment).
Litonite is used in the form of a 10% solution intravenously.
In case of withdrawal syndrome, 0.1-0.2 g (content of 1-2 ampoules) is administered 2 times a day for 1 week. Intravenous administration can be combined with emotional stress psychotherapy (see. Special means for the treatment of alcoholism).
In acute alcohol poisoning, Litonite is administered intravenously until the signs of intoxication disappear, after diluting the solution in 10-15 ml of 5-40% glucose solution.
At application of a litonite the by-effects characteristic of nicotinic acid are possible (reddening of a face and an upper half of a trunk, feeling of inflow to the head, urticaria, etc.). Intravenous administration of the drug should be made in a horizontal position of the patient.
The use of litonite is contraindicated in pregnancy, acute renal and hepatic insufficiency, poisoning with drugs and other chemical compounds, with poor tolerance to nicotinic acid preparations.
