Description of the medicine: Intestopan (Intestopanum)
Tablets containing 0.2 g of 5, 7-dibromo-8-hydroxyquinoline and 0.04 g of 5, 7-dibromo-8-benzoyloxyquinaldine.
The drug has antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity and is close in its mechanism of action to chlorchinaldol.
They are used in acute and chronic enterocolitis, amoebic and bacillary dysentery, putrefactive dyspepsia.
In acute disorders, adults are prescribed 1 to 2 tablets 4 to 6 times a day, for a maximum of 10 days. In chronic cases, 1 to 2 tablets 3 times a day. Children under 2 years old - 1/4 tablet per 1 kg of body weight per day in 3 to 4 doses, over 2 years old - 1 to 2 tablets 2 to 4 times a day. The tablets are crushed, washed down with milk or water.
Since intestopan contains a derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline, all the same precautions should be followed during its use as for other drugs of this group.
Contraindications are the same as for chlorchinaldol. The bromine content in Intestopan should be considered.
