Description of the medicine: Doxazosin (Doxazosin)

Doxazosin (Doxazosin).

1- (4-Amino-6,7-dimethoxy-2-quinazolinyl) -4 - [(1,4-benzodioxan-2-yl) carbonyl] piperazine.

Produced in the form of monomethanesulfonate (mesylate).

Synonyms: Cardura, Tonocardin, Cardura, Tonocardin.

Powder of white color. Easily soluble in dimethylsulfoxide, soluble in dimethylformamide and difficult in water, ethanol, methanol and acetone.

By structure and action is close to prazozin. Contains a benzodioxane radical, characteristic of some synthetic α-blockers (see Piroxan, Butiroksan).

It is an selective blocker of postsynaptic α 1 -adrenoceptors. In comparison with prazozin has a more prolonged effect.

Quickly and almost completely absorbed, bioavailability is about 65%, which is due to the effect of "first passage" through the liver, C max - 2-3 h, T S - 19-22 h; Is excreted mainly with feces in the form of metabolites.

Applied with arterial hypertension and prostatic hypertrophy.

Assign inside, starting with 0,001 g (1 mg) 1 time per day. Then gradually increase the dose as necessary to 0.004-0.008 g (4-8 mg) per day.

The maximum daily dose for arterial hypertension is 0.016 g (16 mg).

Possible side effects, precautions, contraindications are basically the same as when applying prazosin.

There are cases of blurred vision, cholestasis, jaundice, and sometimes impotence with doxazosin.

Product: tablets of 0.001; 0.002; 0.004 and 0.008 g (1; 2; 4; and 8 mg) (N. 10, 20, 30).
