Description of the drug: Butorphanol (Butorphanolum)

BUTORFANOL (Butorphanolum) * (-) -17- (Cyclobutylmethyl) -iminan-3, 14-diol.

Synonyms: Moradol, Moradol, Stadol, Torate, Torbugesic, Torgesic, Torbutrol, Verstadol.

Butorphanol is a strong analgesic for parenteral use. It belongs to the group of antagonists-agonists of opiate receptors and is close in this respect to pentazocine and nalbuphine. By the strength of the action, the speed of the onset of the effect and the duration of the action is close to morphine, but is effective in smaller doses than morphine; A dose of butorphanol 2 mg causes strong analgesia. Compared with morphine has a low narcogenic potential, less ability to cause physical dependence.

Butorfanol is used mainly for severe pain: in the postoperative period, in cancer patients, in renal colic, severe trauma, etc.

Enter intramuscularly or intravenously. Usual single dose for adults intramuscularly - 2 mg every 4 hours (from 1 to 4 mg, depending on the intensity of pain). Usual single dose intravenously - 1 mg (0.5 to 2 mg) every 3 to 4 hours.

In anesthesia practice apply for premedication, during surgery and in the postoperative period. For the purpose of premedication, enter intramuscularly at a dose of 2 mg for 30 - 60 minutes before surgery. During the operation, intravenously administered at a dose of 2 to 4 mg, if necessary - an additional 2 mg at a total dose of 4 to 12, 5 mg (0.06 to 0.18 mg / kg). You can use butorphanol in smaller doses (1 - 2 mg) in the composition of "lytic mixtures" - in combination with diprazine, atropine.

In cancer patients used intramuscularly in a single dose of 1 - 2 mg and a daily dose of 2 - 24 mg.

With the use of butorphanol, respiratory depression can be approximately the same as when taking morphine (in equi-effective doses), drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, sweating, nausea. There is an increase in pressure in the pulmonary artery and systolic blood pressure, increased heart rate, increased intracranial pressure. There may be a urticaria.

Butorfanol should be used with great care in respiratory failure, craniocerebral trauma, impaired liver and kidney function. Care should be taken in patients with high blood pressure.

Do not prescribe the drug to patients under the age of 18 (due to a lack of sufficient experience studying the effects of the drug in children and adolescents).

Do not prescribe the drug to patients with physical dependence on drugs.
