RIFABUTHIN (Rifabutin).

Synonyms: Mycobutin, R-Butin, Mycobutin.

Red and purple powder. Virtually nerastvorim in water, poorly soluble in ethanol, soluble in chloroform and methanol.

Semisynthetic antibiotic. It operates on different types of mycobacteria, including mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Used as a backup antituberculous drug. It is also used to prevent the generalization of M. avium-intracellulare infection in HIV-infected patients.
