Methaqualone (Methaqualonum). 2-Methyl-3- (o-tolyl) -4-quinazolinone.

Synonyms: Dormigen, Dormotil, Motolon, Ortonal, Aqualon, Bendor, Citexal, Dormigen , Dormilone, Dormised, Dormotil, Dorsedine, Holodorm, Ipnolan, Ipnosed, Mekvalon, Melsomin, Mequalon, Mezulon, Motolon, Mynal, Nobadorm, Noctilene, Normorest, Optinoxan, Orthonal, Revonal, Ronqualone, Somberol, Somnidon, Somnomed, Somnotropon, Tolinon, Toquilone, Toraflon, Torinal and others.

The white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water and alcohol.

Sedative and hypnotic, anticonvulsant and has a moderate effect. It enhances the effect of barbiturates, analgesics, neuroleptics. It has antitussive activity, increases the effects of codeine. Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; cleaved in the liver almost entirely. According to the hypnotic effect of barbiturates is not inferior. Sleep comes in 15 - 30 minutes after ingestion and lasts for 6- 8 h.

Apply with sleep disorders of various etiologies, including insomnia associated with acute and chronic pain.

Assign the interior of 0.2 g (1 tablet) for half an hour before bedtime. When you take an early awakening (night) to 0.5 tablets. During preoperative give the evening before the operation 1 - 1 5 tablets (0.2 - 0.3 g).

The drug is generally well tolerated. In rare cases there are vomiting and other diarrheal phenomenon.
