METAQUALON (Methaqualonum). 2-Methyl-3- (ortho-tolyl) -4-quinazolinone.

White crystalline powder. Slightly soluble in water and alcohol.
Calming and sleeping pills, also has a mild anticonvulsant effect. Enhances the effect of barbiturates, analgesics, antipsychotics. It has antitussive activity, enhances the effect of codeine. Quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; breaks down in the liver almost completely. On hypnotic effect is not inferior to barbiturates. Sleep occurs 15-30 minutes after ingestion and lasts 6-8 hours.
It is used for sleep disorders of various etiologies, including insomnia associated with acute and chronic pain.
Assign inside 0.2 g (1 tablet) half an hour before bedtime. With early waking, take (at night) 0.5 tablets. During preoperative preparation, 1 - 1, 5 tablets (0.2 - 0.3 g) are given on the evening before surgery.
The drug is usually well tolerated. In rare cases, vomiting and other dyspeptic symptoms are observed.
Release form: tablets of 0.2 g in a package of 10 pieces.
