Description of the medicine: Oxazyl (Oxazylum)

OXAZYL (Oxazylum).

N, N'-Bis (2-diethylaminoethyl) oxamide bis (ortho-chlorobenzyl dichloride).

Synonyms: Ambenonil chloridum, Ambenonium cloride, Ambestigminum chloride, Mysuran chloride, Mytelase chloride, etc.

White fine crystalline powder. Hygroscopic. Easily soluble in water, soluble in alcohol.

Oxazyl is a symmetrical bis-quaternary ammonium base.

Has a strong anticholinesterase (reversible) effect. By the nature of the action is close to proserin, but more active and lasts longer.

Applied with myasthenia gravis, motor disorders. Associated with the transferred meningitis or encephalitis, in the recovery period of poliomyelitis, with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, after CNS trauma, with peripheral paralysis of the facial nerve.

Assign inside (after eating) in the form of tablets of 0.005 g (5 mg). When myasthenia gravis start with the intake of 1 tablet, then the dose is gradually increased (adding 1 mg), observing the effectiveness and tolerability of the drug. Usually a single dose (for adults) of 0.01 g (2 tablets), but some patients need higher doses (3 to 4 tablets). Children prescribe the drug in smaller doses, depending on the age. In mild cases of the disease, oxazil is used 1 to 2 times a day, in heavy cases, 5 to 6 times. Intervals between doses in order to avoid cumulation should be at least 4 hours. When taking the drug before bedtime, its effect due to the duration of the action is often maintained until the morning.

Signs of oxazyl (increasing the volume of movement and muscle strength, improving motor activity, a sense of ease, etc.) are usually manifested after 0.5, 1, 5 hours after ingestion. The effect after a single admission lasts up to 5 - 10 hours or more, which exceeds the duration of action of proserin (an average of 2 hours after a single dose).

In the treatment of motor disorders, which are a consequence of poliomyelitis, oxazil is used in conjunction with other activities (medical gymnastics, physiotherapy, balneotherapy, etc.) in both the early and late recovery period.

Assign to children at the age of 1 - 2 years to 0,001 - 0,002 grams (1-2 mg), 2-5 years 0,002 to 0,003 grams (2 to 3 mg), 6 to 10 years 0,003 to 0,005 grams (3-5 mg ), 11 - 14 years - 0,005 - 0,007 g (5 - 7 mg), over 14 years - 0,007 - 0,01 g (7 - 10 mg); Take once a day. Depending on the effectiveness and tolerability of the drug can be prescribed every day or after 1 - 2 days, for a course of treatment 15 - 20 receptions. Repeated courses are conducted after 2 - 3 months.

For motor disorders after meningitis, encephalitis, CNS trauma, with paralysis of the facial nerve and with other motor disorders, appoint, starting from 0.005 g (5 mg) 2 to 3 times a day, changing the dose depending on the effect and tolerability. The course of treatment on average 2 - 3 weeks. Children under 10 years of age are prescribed 0.001 g (1 mg) per 1 year of life per day (in 2 to 3 doses).

Higher doses for adults inside: single 0.025 g (25 mg), daily 0.05 g (50 mg).

Possible side effects and contraindications are the same as when using proserin.
