Description of the medicine: Guanfacine (Guanfacine)

GUANFACINE *. (2, 6-Dichlorophenylacetyl) -guanidine.

Produced in the form of hydrochloride.

Synonyms: Estulic, Estulic [Name of the drug of the company "Sandoz" (Switzerland)], Guanfacine hydrochloride, Hipertensal, Tenex.

According to the chemical structure and mechanism of action, guanfacine is close to clonidine. Like clonidine, it is a stimulator (agonist) of central a 2-adrenoreceptors, reduces the flow of sympathetic pulses from the central nervous system.

Applied for the treatment of hypertensive disease. The drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, it binds little with plasma proteins. The peak concentration in the plasma is observed after 3 hours after administration, the half-life is 13 to 14 hours (up to 18 hours). A long duration of action allows you to take the drug 1 time per day.

It is excreted mainly with urine.

Assign guanfacine as an antihypertensive agent for various forms of hypertension and renal hypertension.

Adults usually take a daily dose of 1 mg (sometimes 0.5 mg) 1 time before bedtime (given the drug-induced drowsiness and the possibility of a sharp decrease in blood pressure). With insufficient effectiveness, the daily dose is gradually increased to 2 mg (also in 1 dose), in rare cases - up to 3 mg, adding no more than 0.5-1, 0 mg and no more than 1 time per week.

If necessary, you can simultaneously prescribe diuretics.

Possible side effects, precautions and contraindications are the same as for clonidine.

The drug is canceled gradually.

Due to the lack of sufficient experience in the use of the drug in children, it should not be prescribed before the age of 12 years.

Product: tablets of 0.5; 1 and 2 mg in packages of 30 and 100 pieces.
