Description of the medicine: Cortison (Cortisonum)

Cortisone (Cortisonum),

For use in medical practice, cortisone acetate (Cortisoni acetas) is produced.

Pregnen-4-diol-17a, 21-trione-3, 11, 20,21-acetate.

Synonyms: Adreson, Cortadren, Cortelan, Cortisate, Cortisone acetate, Cortistab, Cortistal, Cortisyl, Cortogen, Cortone, Incorten, Rincorten, and others.

White or white with a weak yellowish tinge crystalline powder. Almost nerastvorim in water, very little soluble in alcohol.

Assign inside or intramuscularly (in the form of a suspension) in the presence of indications for the use of glucocorticosteroids.

Inside, usually in the first days of treatment, 0.1-0.2 g per day (3-4 times a day), then gradually reduce the dose to a minimum sufficient to maintain a therapeutic effect (0.025 g per day on average). The course dose for rheumatism is 3 - 4 g.

Intramuscularly introduce 0,025 - 0,05 g once a day or 2 times with intervals of 8 - 12 hours.

The effect of the drug after a single oral intake lasts 6 to 8 hours, after intramuscular injection (as a suspension) - 8 - 12 hours.

With Addison's disease, cortisone is prescribed together with deoxy corticosterone, while sodium chloride is administered simultaneously. Usually taken on 0,0125 - 0,025 g per day (12, 5 - 25, 0 mg) of cortisone, 0,001 - 0,005 g (1 - 5 mg) of deoxycorticosterone acetate and 4 - 6 - 10 g of sodium chloride. A combination of cortisone with ascorbic acid is also recommended.

Higher doses of cortisone acetate for adults: single 0.15 g, daily 0.3 g.

Children cortisone is prescribed in smaller doses; However, it should be borne in mind that the amount of the drug should correspond to the severity of the disease rather than the age. Young children are usually prescribed 0.0125-0.025 g 3 times a day for 2 days, then 2 times a day, then the dose is reduced to a supporting dose; Children of school age - to 0.025 g 3 times a day, then 2 times a day, then reduce the dose to a minimum, sufficient to maintain therapeutic effect. Is inside or injected intramuscularly.

Cortisone, like other steroid hormones, should be used under medical supervision. Patients should be carefully examined beforehand and in the future systematically monitor the picture of blood, body weight, blood pressure, blood glucose and mental state.

Cortisone more often than other glucocorticosteroid drugs, causes side effects. With prolonged treatment and the use of large doses (more than 0.1 g per day), virile obesity, hirsutism, acne, menstrual disorders, osteoporosis, the Itzenko-Cushing syndrome, mental disorders, etc. may occur. Ulceration of the digestive tract, perforation of the unrecognized ulcer, Hemorrhagic pancreatitis.

In connection with the emergence of more effective, better tolerated synthetic glucocorticoid drugs, cortisone currently has limited use.

Precautions and contraindications for use are the same as for all glucocorticosteroids.

Forms of release: tablets of 0,025 and 0,05 g; Suspension in vials containing 10 ml (in 1 ml of the suspension contains 0.025 g of cortisone acetate).
