Endocervicitis

Endocervicitis - inflammation of the mucous membrane of the cervical canal of the uterus. The causative agents of infection are gonococci (see Gonorrhea), pyogenic microbes.

Symptoms, course. Edema, hyperemia of the mucosa and hypersecretion. In chronic course, the muscle and the glands of the cervix with its hypertrophy (cervical metritis) are involved in the process.

The diagnosis is based on the examination of the cervix: the cervix is enlarged, a hyperemic rim of the mucosa, a mucopurulent discharge around the outer opening of the neck canal.

Treatment. In the acute stage - rest, antibiotics, sulfonamides, in the chronic - vaginal baths with 2-3% solution of protargol, lubrication of the mucous membrane with a 5% solution of silver nitrate, antibiotic injection into the neck thickness. With gonorrheal etiology of the process - a specific treatment. Spa treatment: hydrosulphuric irrigation, mud naphthalene, vaginal tampons.

The prognosis is favorable.

Prophylaxis is the same as prevention of endometritis.
