Botanical characteristics. Perennial, herbaceous, plant up to 60 cm tall. It grows in mixed forests, on their fringes, dry grassy slopes.

Rhizome short with long subordinate roots. Stem is straight, not pubescent. Leaves petiolate, leathery, shiny, on margin bristly-serrate, simple or pinnately-spaced. Flower baskets with a green, multi-row wrapper and often surrounded by leaves. The petals of the flowers are white. Blossoms in June - July, fructifies in August - September. Seeds are small.

Used parts of the plant. Medicinal raw materials are rhizomes with roots, the aerial part of the plant: flowers, leaves, fruits and seeds. Raw material is collected in the usual way. All parts of the plant contain essential oil. Application. Atractylodes is one of the most used ingredients in oriental medicine recipes. Roots and rhizomes in Chinese and Korean medicine are used as analgesic, diuretic, diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory, improves appetite and restorative. The aerial part of the plant in collections - with asthenia, gastritis, dyspepsia, anemia, ascites, arthritis, rheumatism, leprosy, chicken pox, malignant tumors. Leaves, flowers, stems in Chinese medicine are used for cholelithiasis, chronic nephritis, diabetes, dysentery, as a diuretic.

In the Far East decoctions of roots and aerial parts of plants are used in the complex treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

In the experiment, tincture and extract have anticoagulant, antisclerotic, coronary-dilating, diuretic and fungicidal action. The sum of sesquiterpenoids shows tuberculostatic activity, has a hepatoprotective effect.

Essential oil is used in the perfume industry as a flavor. In foreign literature there is evidence that the seeds of atractylodes are used for impotence.

Preparation

  • For broth take 15 g of roots, grind, pour 200 ml of boiling water, cover with a lid and heat in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, cool for 10 minutes, without removing from the bath, filter, bring up to 200 ml, squeezing out the remainder. Take 2 tbsp. Spoon 3 times a day, regardless of food intake.
  • For the tincture take 100 g of roots, grind and pour 70% alcohol or vodka, insist at room temperature for 10 days. Take 40 drops per reception 3-4 times a day before meals.
  • The extract at home is prepared from the tinctures, evaporated halfway. Take 20-30 drops at the reception.
  • For infusion, take 20 g of the aboveground part of the plant, chop, pour 200 ml of boiling water, insist on a boiling bath for 15 minutes, cool 45 minutes, filter. Take 1/3 cup 2-3 times daily before meals.
