Thyroiditis - an inflammatory disease of the thyroid gland of infectious or immune nature.

Patients complain of pain in the neck that radiates to the neck, lower jaw. Sometimes there is pain when swallowing, there is difficulty in breathing and swallowing. In some cases, there are fever sweating, weakness. The thyroid gland is diffusely enlarged, dense consistency, often painful on palpation. Usually it is mobile, but in some forms may be soldered to the surrounding tissues. Thyroid function is often raised, but with prolonged duration may develop symptoms of hypothyroidism. In the blood leukocytosis with a left shift, increased ESR. The course can be acute thyroiditis (often with the infectious nature of the disease) and chronic (chronic fibrous thyroiditis, an autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis) or subacute (de Quervain's thyroiditis).

Diagnosis is based on the increase in thyroid inflammation and symptoms (pain, tissue sealing, fever , changes in the blood). In some cases, spend a puncture biopsy of the prostate.

Treatment. When the infectious nature of the disease shows antibacterial drugs, and autoimmune inflammation - glucocorticoids. In the case of hypothyroidism, thyroid hormones is prescribed (tireoidin, triiodothyronine), with symptoms of hyperthyroidism - beta-blockers.
