Windows XP: Restore Windows after a serious crash

Changing the type of service or driver startup

Unintentionally disabling the start of a specific service can cause Windows to stop loading. To solve this problem is simple enough. Download the Recovery Console (for information on how to do this, see the FAQ How to Start the Recovery Console). Login to the system, the service in which was inadvertently turned off and which stopped loading. In the Recovery Console using the command

Listsvc

Find out the name of the disabled service.

Suppose that the name of the service you want to enable is Browser and that the type of its launch was erroneously set to "Disabled." To change the service startup type to "Auto" from the Recovery Console, you must run the following command:

Enable browser service_auto_start

If more than one service has been disabled, repeat the above procedure for everyone. After the service startup type is changed, you must restart the computer. To reboot, in the Recovery Console, enter the following command:

Exit

Similarly, you can disable the launch of the driver, after installation, you can not boot the system.

Find out his name using the command

Listsvc

(Assume that this is driver_name) and using the command

Disable driver_name

Disable its startup.
