Deuteronomy 12

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
1 These are the decrees and laws that you must endeavor to fulfill in the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, gives you in your possession, all the days that you will live on that earth.
2 Exterminate all the places where the peoples that you possess have served their gods, on high mountains and hills, and under any branchy tree;
3 and destroy their altars, and crush their pillars, and burn their groves with fire, and smash the images of their gods, and destroy their name from that place.
4 You must not do this for the Lord your God;

5 but to the place that the Lord your God chooses, from all your tribes, to abide by his name there, turn and come there,
6 and bring your burnt offerings there, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the offering of your hands, and your vows, and your voluntary offerings, and your firstborn cattle and your small cattle;
7 and eat there before the Lord your God, and you and your families rejoice at all that was done by your hands, than the Lord your God blessed you.
eight There you should not do everything as we are doing here now, each that seems right to him;
nine for now you have not yet entered the place of rest and the inheritance that the Lord your God gives you.
ten But when you cross the Jordan and settle on the land that the Lord your God gives you as your inheritance, and when He will calm you from all your enemies surrounding [you], and you will live in safety,
eleven then, what place the Lord your God will choose to abide His name there, bring everything that I command you there: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering of your hands, and all that you have chosen according to your vows that you promised the Lord ;
12 and have fun before the Lord your God, you and your sons, and your daughters, and your slaves, and your slaves, and the Levite who is in the midst of your dwellings, for there is no part to him with you.
13 Beware of offering your burnt offerings in every place that you see;
fourteen but in that only place that the Lord will choose, in one of your tribes, bring your burnt offerings and do everything that I command you.
fifteen However, when your soul only desires, you can slaughter and eat, with the blessing of the Lord your God, the meat that He has given you in all your dwellings: these unclean and clean can eat like chamois and like a deer;
16 only don’t eat blood: pour it on the ground like water.
17 You cannot eat in your dwellings tithes of your bread, and your wine, and your oil, and the first-born of your cattle and your cattle, and all your vows that you promised, and your voluntary offerings, and the offerings of your hands;
18 but you eat this before the Lord your God, in that place that the Lord your God chooses - you and your son, and your daughter, and your servant, and your slave, and Levite, [and an alien] who is in the dwellings yours, and have fun before the Lord your God, about all that was done by your hands.
19 Look, do not leave the Levite all the days [which you will live] on your land.
20 When the Lord your God spreads your limits, as He told you, and you say: 'I eat meat', because your soul will desire to eat meat, then, at the request of your soul, eat meat.
21 If the place that the Lord your God chooses to abide His name is far from you, then slaughter from your cattle and herds that the Lord gave you, as I commanded you, and eat in your dwellings, at the request of your soul ;
22 but eat them as a chamois and a deer eat; unclean as well as pure can eat this;
23 just watch strictly so that there is no blood, because blood is the soul: do not eat the soul with meat;
24 Do not eat it: pour it on the ground like water;
25 Do not eat it, that it may be good for you and your children after you, if you do the right thing in the sight of the Lord.
26 Only your shrines that you will have, and bring your vows, and come to the place that the Lord will choose.
27 and make your burnt offerings, meat and blood, on the altar of the Lord thy God; but the blood of [other] your sacrifices must be shed at the altar of the Lord thy God, and eat meat.
28 Listen and fulfill all these words that I command you, that it may be good for you and your children after you forever, if you do what is good and acceptable in the eyes of the Lord your God.
29th When the Lord your God will destroy from your face the nations to which you go to take them into possession, and you, taking them, will settle in their land;
thirty then be careful that you don’t get on the net, following them, after they are destroyed from your face, and do not look for their gods, saying: “as these nations served their gods, so I will do it”;
31 do not do this unto the Lord thy God, for all that the Lord hates, that he hates, they do to their gods: they burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.
32 Try to do everything that I command you; do not add to it, nor decrease from it.
