Exodus 7

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
But the Lord said to Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet
Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel out of his land;
And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt;
Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth my hosts, my people the Israelites out of Egypt - with great judgments;
Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out my hand on Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
Moses [was] eighty and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, saying:
When Pharaoh says to you, do a miracle, then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast before Pharaoh - it will become a serpent.
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
eleven Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments:
each one threw down his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them, as the LORD had said.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hard; he does not want to let the people go.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning, behold, it comes out to the water, you stand in the way of his, on the banks of the river, and the rod which was turned to a serpent take in thine hand
and say to him: Lord, the God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness; but you did not listen until now.
Thus says the Lord: By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold the rod that is in my hand I will strike the waters which are in the river, and it turned into blood,
and fish in the river shall die, and the river shall stink, and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt on their rivers, their streams, on their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, --and may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout the land of Egypt and in wooden and in stone vessels.
And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded. And he lifted up [Aaron] the rod and struck the water of the river before the eyes of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water in the river turned to blood,
and fish in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments the same. He hardened Pharaoh's heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house; and his heart was not started and the sim.
And all the Egyptians digged round about the river [to find] water to drink, because they could not drink water from the river.
And seven days were fulfilled after that the LORD had smitten the river.
