John 7

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for on Judah did not want to go, because the Jews sought to kill him.
Now the feast of the Jews - ordination of Tabernacles.
His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
For no one does anything in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
For neither did his brethren believe in him.
Then Jesus said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always.
The world can not hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it that its works are evil.
You go up to this feast; I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.
These things saying, he remained in Galilee.
But when his brothers, and then he came to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
eleven Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said, Where is he?
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: some said, He is a good man; and others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
But no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

But Jesus went into the half already a holiday in the temple, and taught.
And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine - not mine, but his who sent me;
who wants to do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is, or whether I speak of myself from God.
Speaking of himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness in Him.
Not Moses give you the law? and none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?
The people answered and said: have a demon in you? Who seeks to kill you?
Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
Moses gave you circumcision - not that it is from Moses, but of the fathers, --and on Saturday you circumcise a man.
If you angry, because I made a man healed on the Sabbath on Saturday, a man receives circumcision, so that was not broken the law of Moses, --At Me?
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with righteous judgment.
Here are some of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
Here, he says, clearly, and they say nothing to him: Do the rulers know that this is truly the Christ?
But we know this man, whence he is; But when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.
Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: You both know me, and know whence I am; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you know not.
I know him because I am from him, and he sent me.
thirty Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because it is not yet his hour had come.
Many of the people believed in Him and said, When Christ comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?
The Pharisees heard such things concerning him among the people, and sent the Pharisees and chief priests - to take him.
Jesus said to them: Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him who sent me;
You will seek me, and shall not find; and where I am, [there] ye can not come.
The Jews therefore said among themselves: Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? Will he go unto the dispersed among the Greeks and teach?
What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find; and where I am, [there] ye can not come?

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to Me and drink.
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe in him: for as yet not been given the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Many of the people heard these words, they said this is the Prophet.
Others said, This is the Christ. And others said, unless Christ comes from Galilee?
Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?
So there was a division among the people him.
Some of them would have taken him; but no one laid hands on him.

Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them: Why have you not brought him?
The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?
I believed in him one of the rulers or of the Pharisees?
But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, being one of them, he says to them:
Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he does?
They said therefore unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see that out of Galilee no prophet.
And all went to their homes.
