INVASION DISEASES

OODINIOSIS (OODINUMOZ, "GOLD DUST", "CEREBRAL DISEASE")

THE REBATTER
Flagellate Oodinium limneticum (parasitizes on the surface of the skin and fins of fish) and Oodinium pillularis (parasitizes under the epithelial layer of the skin and fins of fish). The size is 0.06-0.07 mm.

BIOLOGY
In a certain period of development, both species of flagellates are covered with a protective shell (cyst) and are at rest. During this period, they do not work on any medications. After the rupture of the protective shell, the young flagellates-dinospores-come straight out of the palmella into the water.

EPISEOLOGICAL DATA
Most often it affects the Cardinals, the Lalius, the macropods, the barbs and nannostomus, and sometimes other fish.

SYMPTOMS AND PATHOGENESIS
First, the fish behave calmly, only occasionally scratching underwater objects. When inspecting fish through a magnifying glass on the body and fins, individual scales are fringed with small nodules in the form of a golden or gray flourish rash. Over time, the outer covers exfoliate in the form of flakes, the interlace fin tissue is destroyed, they are glued and split. The fish are swimming with jerks. Slime is abundantly allocated, which, in turn, leads to a violation of skin gas exchange. Appetite in fish is preserved until death.

DIAGNOSIS
The disease is diagnosed after visual inspection of the skin surface. When examined under a microscope, it can be seen that the diseased fish are almost completely covered with oodiniums.

TREATMENT
Dinospores and adult parasites die under the influence of medicinal preparations introduced into the water. However, Oodinium pillularis, which was under the epithelial layer of the skin, remains unscathed. Success in treatment can be achieved by creating the most favorable conditions for the flagellates and thereby minimizing the time for their development. Then the exit of the oodiniums from under the epithelial layer of the skin or cyst will coincide with the moment of introducing a toxic dose of the medicinal preparation into the aquarium. Fish are caught from an infected aquarium and placed in a special isolation vessel, the water temperature in it should be at a level of 24 - 26 degrees. From the insulator, the fish are placed in a bath with a medical preparation, and the water from the insulator is replaced with a fresh one. In an aquarium without fish, the water temperature is also maintained at a level of 24 to 26 degrees, the lighting remains the same or strengthens it. In such conditions, the aquarium remains for 12 - 14 days. For this, the dynospores come out of the cysts and die without the master. Then the fish that have been treated with medicinal baths are returned to the aquarium.
Baths:

  • 1 g of copper sulfate per 10 liters of water, aging is 20 - 25 minutes, the procedure is carried out once a day for a week;
  • 10 ml of 40% formalin per 10 liters of water, aging for 15 seconds, for adult fish 20 - 25 seconds, weakened fish may die;
  • Bicillin-5 at a dose of 1500000 units per 10 liters of water, 30 minutes, once a day for six days;
  • Twice: 5 g malachite green for 10 liters of water, then 7 g for 10 liters of water, 5 hours exposure.

PREVENTION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
It is necessary to ensure that parasites do not enter the aquarium with live food.
