Scrotum

Scrotum, scrotum, is a musculoskeletal formation that is a receptacle for testicles with appendages and a lower section of spermatic cord. It occupies the anterior part of the perineal region and consists of the skin and several layers of membranes.

The structure of the scrotum

Skin of the scrotum represents a direct extension of the skin of the penis ; It is thin, has no fat, wrinkled, more pigmented than the skin of the stomach or thighs, covered with rare hair. A lot of sweat and sebaceous glands are embedded in the skin; On the middle of its surface, in the anteroposterior direction, starting from the root of the penis and ending in the perineum, the seam of the scrotum is located, the raphe scroti, which looks like a skinny low cushion.

Under the skin is a fleshy shell, tunica dartos, or fleshy muscle, m. Dartos, consisting of a network of smooth muscle fibers. It is connected to the skin by a large number of jumpers. Reduction of this membrane causes the formation of multiple skin folds on the scrotum. Deeper than the fleshy shell is a loose connective tissue, devoid of fat, which connects it with the underlying external seminal fascia, fascia spermatica externa.

The cavity of the scrotum is divided into two halves - the right and the left - the sagittally moving septum of the scrotum, septum scroti, corresponding to the seam of the scrotum.

Innervation: nn. Scrotales anteriores (from n. Ilioinguinalis), nn. Scrotales posteriores (from n. Pudendus), plexus hypogastricus inferior (innervation of smooth muscle fibers of the scrotum).

Blood supply: rr. Scrotales anteriores (a. Pudenda externa), rr. Scrotales posteriores (a. Pudenda interna), a. Dorsalis penis. Beznaya blood flows off by vv. Scrotales anteriores and then v. Femoralis, vv. Scrotales posteriores, then in v. Iliaca interna. Lymphatic vessels divert lymph to nodi lymphatici inguinales superficiales.
