THE SEXUAL GLAND.

The glands of internal secretion include endocrine formations of the male genital glands - testes and female gonads - ovaries . The hormones they produce affect the formation of secondary sexual characteristics.

Intrasecretory elements of the testicles are intermediate, or interstitial, cells that lie in the loose connective tissue located between the seminiferous tubules and release testosterone from the male sex hormone. These are epithelial cells with fine-grained protoplasm and with rod-shaped lipid crystals included in it. The number of such cells is individual, they are subject to age and physiological fluctuations. The totality of these cells was allocated to a special pubertal gland. According to other authors, the intrasecretory part of the testicle is his sexual department, i.e. Glandular epithelium of the seminiferous tubules, and interstitial cells take part in the metabolism.

Innervation: plexus celiacus, renalis, aorticus, hypogastricus.

Ovaries

The intrasecretory function of the ovaries, as well as the testes, is attributed to a number of authors by interstitial cells that produce female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone . However, most researchers associate this function with the luteal cells of the yellow body. These cells are formed from the inner layer of the connective tissue membrane of the follicle and their follicular epithelium. In the fluid of the follicle, the presence of a female sex hormone, folliculin, has been demonstrated.

Innervation: plexus hypogastricus, uterovaginalis.
