White Belly Line
The white line of the abdomen , linea alba, has the appearance of a tendon strip extending from the xiphoid process to pubic adhesion. Its width in the upper abdominal wall is up to 1-2 cm, it narrows considerably downwards, but becomes thicker. The white line is formed by intertwining beams of the aponeurosis of all three pairs of broad abdominal wall muscles.

In the upper part, where the white line is thinner and wider, between the intertwining bundles of aponeuroses there remain those more or less pronounced crevices, which may be the place of formation of hernia of the white line of the abdomen. Approximately in the middle of the white line there is an umbilical ring, anulus umbilicalis, made with a loose scar tissue, or navel, umbilicus, s. Umbo, in the place of which in the intrauterine period of development there was a round hole that passed through the umbilical vessels (v. Et aa. Umbilicalest.) In this place, hernias often form.
