Affective-shock reactions

Are caused by a sudden strong impact, usually representing a threat to life (fire, earthquake, flood, etc.). Appear in the form of excitation and inhibition. Reactions with excitement are expressed by senseless chaotic motor anxiety against the background of narrowed consciousness. The patient rushes, screams, asks for help, tries to escape, often to meet the threatening danger. After getting out of psychosis, patients do not remember well the condition that has passed. Reactions with inhibition are accompanied by partial or complete immobilization (stupor). Despite the menacing danger, a person, as it were, freezes, becomes stiff, can not make movements, say the words. The reactive stupor lasts from a few minutes to several hours. Mimicry reflects either fright, horror, despair, confusion, or absolute indifference to what is happening. In those cases when inhibition does not reach the degree of stupor, patients are available to contact, but their speech is slowed down, monosyllabic, the movements are constrained, and the sensation of heaviness is felt in the legs. Consciousness can be narrowed with the subsequent loss of individual events from memory. To acute reactive psychoses, hysterical psychotic conditions that usually arise in the context of a judicial situation in the face of criminal liability may also be attributed. There are several variants of such disorders, which can combine or replace one another.
