Description of the medicine: Puffhamidum (Puphemidum)

PUPHEMIDUM. 3- (p-Isopropoxyphenyl) succinimide.

White powder with a slightly yellowish tinge. Almost nerastvorim in the water. Soluble in alcohol.

As well as ethosuximide, it is a derivative of succinic acid imide. The structure differs from ethosuximide in that instead of methyl and ethyl at the nitrogen atom in position 3 contains a para-substituted phenyl radical.

Like other drugs of this group (succinimides) has anticonvulsant activity. Applied with epilepsy such as petit mal, as well as with temporal epilepsy.

Is ingested before meals. Dose for adults - starting with 0.25 g 3 times a day; With insufficient effect, the dose is increased to 1.5 g per day. Children under the age of 7 years are prescribed 0.125 g, over 7 years - 0.25 g 3 times a day.

Puffemide can be used in combination with other antiepileptic drugs.

Possible side effects - nausea, insomnia. At a nausea it is recommended to accept a preparation through 1 1, 5 ch after meal, at disturbance of a dream - not later than for 3 - 4 hours prior to a dream.

The drug is contraindicated in acute liver and kidney diseases, diseases of the hematopoietic system, hyperkinesis, severe atherosclerosis.
