White crystalline powder. Almost nerastvorim in water, little - in alcohol.

It is the most active glycoside of the digitalis purple; Is also found in the digitalis of woolly and in other types of digitalis; 1 g digitoxin contains 8000 - 10 000 ICE or 1911 - 2271 QED. Relatively quickly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The action begins to appear after 2 to 4 hours after administration, the maximum effect is observed after 8 to 12 hours. It has a pronounced cumulative effect.

Take digitoksin inside in the form of tablets containing 0.0001 g (0.1 mg) of the drug. Usually given in the early days of 0.6-1.2 mg per day (in 4 divided doses after 6 hours), the first dose being 1/3 - 1/2 daily (Daily doses sometimes exceed the highest daily doses provided by GPH. ); When the therapeutic effect is achieved, it decreases from one to another, selecting an individual maintenance dose - usually 0.1-0.06 mg (1-1 / 2 tablets) 1 to 2 times a day or 1 to 2 to 3 days.

In patients with dyspepsia or stagnation in the portal vein system, digitoxin can be used in the form of suppositories containing 0.00015 g (0.15 mg) of glycoside (Suppositoria Digitoxini 0.00015). Enter usually into the rectum 1 to 2 suppositories 1 to 2 times a day for the first 2 to 5 days, followed by a decrease in the dose to 1 to 2 suppositories per day. In these cases, the dose should also be selected strictly individually.

Higher doses of digitoxin for adults inside: single 0.0005 g (0.5 mg), daily 0.001 g (1 mg).

With the development of side effects, the dose is reduced, and if necessary, the further administration of the drug is stopped.

Prior to the appointment of digitoxin, it is necessary to determine whether the patient received directly before this (the last 10-14 days) other preparations of cardiac glycosides. In these cases, care should be taken to avoid cumulation phenomena. In connection with this, a break (10 to 14 days) is necessary, if other cardiac glycosides are prescribed after digitoxin.
