Description of the medicine: Penfluridolum (Penfluridolum)
PENFLURIDOL (Penfluridolum). 1- [4,4-Bis (p-fluorophenyl) butyl] -4- [4-chloro-3- (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] -4-piperidinol.
Synonyms: Semap, Fluridol, Longoran, Longoperidol, Micefal, Oraleptin, Semap.
By structure and action is close to pimozide. Has a prolonged neuroleptic effect, which is explained by the slow metabolism of the drug. The effect after a single dose lasts about a week, while the action of pimozide lasts about 24 hours.
Indications for use and contraindications are basically the same as for pimozide. The most shown as a means for maintenance therapy in patients with low-grade and sluggish schizophrenia.
Assign inside 20 - 60 mg (sometimes up to 100 mg) every 5 to 7 days (average dose 40 - 60 mg per week).
Product: tablets of 0.02 g (20 mg) in a package of 12 pieces.
There is also a drug for prolonged action of pffluridol decanoate.
