Foreign bodies of the nose

Foreign bodies of the nose , as well as foreign bodies of the ear, are most often found in children. In the nasal cavity, piles of food masses that get there through the nasopharynx during vomiting may become stuck. Sometimes around the foreign body, which is long in the nasal cavity, lime and phosphoric salts are deposited, as a result of which the so-called nasal stone-rhinolith is formed.

Symptoms, course. One-sided obstruction of breathing through the nose and purulent discharge from one half of the nose, less often epistaxis. For recognition, use rhinoscopy, probing with a probe and radiography (metal bodies).

Treatment. If the foreign body can not be removed by blinking, it is removed with a blunt crochet. Flat foreign bodies (coins, matches, paper, etc.) can be removed with tweezers. Do not be seduced by the ease of removing tweezers or tongs of seemingly closely spaced, foreign bodies, since they often slip out and push further. Large rhinolites before extraction should be crushed with nasal forceps and removed in parts.
