Bursitis

Bursitis - inflammation of the periarticular mucosa. Causes: trauma (bruise), especially repeated, prolonged chronic trauma, infection of abrasions, cuts in the bag area, etc.

Symptoms, course. Purulent bursitis is characterized by an acute onset. In chronic serous bursitis fluid gradually accumulates in the mucous bag, without causing pain. The main symptom is a localized swelling in the area of the periarticular bag, most often on the front surface of the knee joint or in the region of the elbow process. Purulent bursitis can be complicated by phlegmon of surrounding soft tissues. With spontaneous dissection, fistulas develop.

Treatment. In acute serous bursitis - rest, joint immobilization, thermal procedures. With chronic - puncture bags in aseptic levels, removal of exudate with its bacteriological study, pressing bandage. With a recurring course of chronic bursitis, surgical treatment is indicated - excision of the mucosa. With purulent bursitis, a cut is made to drain the bag, antibiotics are prescribed.

The forecast is usually favorable.

Prevention. To eliminate chronic microtrauma of the joint, protective bandages are required, applied to the knee or elbow joint.
