Bleeding gums

Most likely, your gums bleed if the bristles of your toothbrush are too tight. Picking teeth with a toothpick will also give this effect. And if you do not brush your teeth often enough and correctly, the tartar that forms around the teeth will also cause the gums to bleed.

Chronic inflammation of the gums ( periodontitis ) gradually destroys the gums and bone and, if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

In general, if your gums continue to bleed even after you start using a softer brush, visit the dentist. He will see if there is a local infection, check your dentures so that they do not irritate the gums, brush your teeth and teach you the right dental hygiene. If this does not help, then visit the therapist. He can remind you that you are taking a certain medicine , say an anticoagulant that causes the gums to bleed, or you have vitamin deficiency (lack of vitamin C or K), or a blood coagulation disorder. If you are suffering from diabetes, your gums are more vulnerable to infection and therefore blood. There are still other exotic and even threatening conditions, in which gums are involved, but they are very rare.
