Measuring your temperature

You can determine your temperature in three different ways - by inserting the thermometer into your mouth, under your armpit or into the anus. Whichever method you choose, do not forget to bring mercury down in the thermometer first. If you use "old-fashioned" mercury thermometers, keep them for three minutes. Electronic new devices will tell you yourself when you can watch.

When determining the temperature in the oral cavity, keep the thermometer tightly compressed lips. Do not bite it, especially if it is a glass mercury thermometer. Breathe through your nose if you can (this is not always easy when you have a cold and your nose is stuffed). Some doctors have an annoying habit of putting a thermometer in your mouth and asking questions. Respond with gestures. Measurements in the rectum are preferable in children and seriously ill people.
