See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God. The world knoweth us not, because it knew him. |

Beloved! now we are children of God; but it does not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when he appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. |

And every man that hath this hope in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. |

|
And you know that he was manifested to take away our sins, and in him is no sin. |

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; Whoever sins has not seen him, neither known him. |

Children! let no one deceive you. Who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. |

not as Cain, [who] was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. |

Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren; He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. |

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. |

This we know love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. |

But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother in need and closes his heart against him, -How dwelleth the love of God? |

My children! let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. |

And by this we know that we are from the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him;

For if our heart condemn us, [how much more will God], because God is greater than our hearts and knows everything. |

Beloved! if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence toward God, |
| 22
|
and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

|
And this is his commandment, That we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us. |
| 24
|
And he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us. |
