Acts of the Apostles 16

He reached Derbe and Lystra. And there, there was a certain disciple named Timothy, whose mother was a Jew who believed, and Father Ellen,
And of which the brethren, who were in Lystra and Iconium, testified.
Paul wanted to take it with him; And he took it, and circumcised it for the sake of the Jews that were in those places; For all knew about his father, that he was Elin.
Passing through the cities, they betrayed [the faithful] to observe the decrees, ordained by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem.
And the churches were confirmed by faith and increased daily by number.

th After passing through Phrygia and the Galatian country, they were not allowed to preach the word in Asia by the Holy Spirit.
th Having reached Mysia, they undertook to go to Bithynia; But the Spirit did not allow them.
Having passed Mysia, they descended to Troas.
And at night there was a vision to Paul: a certain man appeared, a Macedonian, asking him and saying: come to Macedonia and help us.
After this vision, immediately we set out to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel there.
eleven So, after leaving Troas, we arrived directly in Samothrace, and on the next day to Naples,
Thence to Philippi: this is the first city in that part of Macedonia, the colony. In this city we stayed for several days.
On the Sabbath day we went out of town to the river, where, as usual, there was a prayer house, and, sitting down, talked with the women gathered there.
And one woman from the city of Thyatira, by the name of Lydia, who was selling scarlet and worshiping God, listened; And the Lord opened her heart to listen to what Paul said.
When she was baptized and her household, she asked us, saying: if you have recognized me as faithful to the Lord, then enter my house and live [y] [me]. And she convinced us.

It happened that when we went to the prayer house, we were met by a servant girl, possessed by the spirit of a diviner, who through her divination delivered a large income to her masters.
th Walking behind Paul and behind us, she cried out, saying: "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are telling us the way of salvation."
She did this for many days. Paul, indignant, turned and said to the Spirit: in the name of Jesus Christ I command you to get out of it. And [the spirit] went out at the same hour.
Then her gentlemen, seeing that the hope of their income had disappeared, seized Paul and Silas and dragged them to the square to the heads.
And bringing them to the commanders, said: These people, being Jews, disturb our city
And preach the customs that we, the Romans, should neither accept nor perform.
The people also rebelled against them, and the commanders, ripping off their clothes, were told to beat them with sticks
And, after giving them many blows, was cast into prison, ordering the prison guard to watch them securely.
Having received such an order, he threw them into the inner dungeon and slammed their feet into the deck.

At about midnight, Paul and Silas prayed and sang God; The prisoners listened to them.
th Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the base of the dungeon was shaken; Immediately all the doors were opened, and all the bonds weakened.
th The dungeon guard, waking up and seeing that the prison doors opened, took out a sword and wanted to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.
But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying: "Do not do any evil to yourself, for we are all here."
He demanded fire, ran into the prison and trembled in Paul and Silas,
thirty And, leading them out, said: "Sovereigns!" What should I do to be saved?
And they said: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and all thy house.
And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
And taking them at that time of the night, he washed their wounds and immediately was baptized himself and all [his] household.
And bringing them to his house, he offered a table and rejoiced with all his house that he believed in God.

When the day came, the voevoda sent the city ministers to say: Let those people go.
The dungeon guard announced this to Paul: the governors have sent to release you; Now go out now, and go in peace.
But Paul said to them: we Roman citizens, without trial, were publicly beaten and thrown into prison, and now secretly released? No, let them come and lead us themselves.
City officials told the voevoda these words, and they were frightened when they heard that they were Roman citizens.
And when they came, they apologized to them and, having removed them, asked to leave the city.
They came out of the dungeon and came to Lidia, and when they saw the brothers, they taught them, and went.
