9.5. NOMINAL NON-INVERTING DIFFERENTIAL CURRENT I D n0
As previously stated, the nominal non-tripping residual current of the RCD is half the value of the setpoint current:
I D n0 = 0.5 I D n .
This means that the actual value of the differential current at which the RCD is activated is in the range of half to an integer value of the rated breaking current. In this case, each particular device has, as a rule, a certain stable value of the breaking current, which is in the specified range. Designers and users of RCD must, in order to avoid false trips, take this circumstance into account and compare the actual value of the breaking current with the "background" leakage current in the electrical installation.
