The basis of the welding machine is the laboratory transformer LATR at 9 A. With it, the casing is also removed from the entire piece of iron, only the winding remains on the core. In the transformer of the welding machine, it becomes the primary ( network ). This winding is insulated with a pair of layers of electrical tape or lacquer. Over the insulation wind the secondary winding - 65 turns of wire or a set of wires with a total cross section of 12 - 13 mm 2 . The winding is strengthened with electrical tape. The transformer is installed on an insulating base made of textolite or getinax inside a casing of sheet steel or duralumin with a thickness of no more than 3 mm . In the cover of the casing, on the rear side walls also there are holes with a diameter of 8 - 10 mm for ventilation. On top strengthen the handle of the steel rod.

On the front panel display indicator light, switch to 220 V, 9 A and secondary winding terminals - to one of them connect the cable with the electrode holder, to the other - the cable, the other end of which during welding is pressed against the work piece. In addition, this last terminal must always be earthed at work. The indicator light of an alternating current of type СН-1, СН-2, МН-5 signals about inclusion of the device.
Electrodes for this apparatus should have a diameter of no more than 1.5 mm .

Manufacture of electrodes

The electrodes are manufactured as follows. Steel wire of the appropriate diameter is chopped into pieces, peeled with a sandpaper and covered with a coating consisting of crushed chalk and liquid glass (silicate glue). So that the coating is flat, the wire is vertically immersed in the coating, leaving a neat end of a suitable length on top, also slowly removed; At the same time, each electrode is suspended on a rope with the help of a clothespin.
After drying, the electrodes are ready for use.
